There’s nothing worse than getting ghosted by a client who is not paying their invoice.
It happened to me recently… But I finally got paid.
And I’m about to give you the word-for-word email follow-up script I used to get this client to snap out of ignoring me and settle up the bill.
If you’ve been ripped off, or if you hate chasing after clients for invoice payments… Then I hope you’ll take inspiration from my approach. (And recoup more non-payments, like I did in this case.)
Here’s the story of my client not paying an invoice:
The client owed me $2k. I sent him an invoice payable in 7 days.
7 days go by… Nothing. So I follow up with him.
Once.
And then twice.
And then another time…
Fast-forward 2 full months and 10 follow-ups (!) later… And this guy still hasn’t paid me.
So one day – at wit’s end with the situation – I sit at my laptop, crack my knuckles, and start writing my “Hail Mary” follow-up… 😬
Email follow-up script if client is not paying your invoice:
Here’s what it said:
=====
Subject line: Follow-up: Invoice
[FIRST NAME], this invoice is now 2 months overdue.
I spent a lot of time and energy on these X emails to try to make you look awesome. I fulfilled on exactly what you ordered, on time.
It feels very unfair that this hasn’t been paid in full yet.
When can I expect a payment?

Then, two hours later, my eyes lit up with delight when I opened my Stripe dashboard and saw this:
So, my friend, I hope this email follow-up template helps you tug at your clients’ heartstrings in a way that gets your invoice paid.
I’m by no means a sales expert and tbh I have no idea if how I approached this is “the right” way. All I know is it worked for me. So it might work for you too.
Email marketing course:
And if you wanna learn how to command $2k+ fees like you saw above (or make sales in your own biz by mailing your list)…
Then I break down exactly how I write emails and create automations for myself and my clients in my $31 email marketing course.
Here’s what one of my students, Mo, said about it (thx, Mo! 😀)
That’s it for today, my friend.
Talk soon!
